Drop and give me twenty!

Not that anyone would ever say that, but if they did, I can actually do it now!

This week I didn’t do much exercise really. I did some light cardio on a few days, but mainly I wanted to concentrate on cleaning the house, and it seems I always use exercise as an excuse not to clean, so I gave myself a week off.

Instead I wanted to test myself, to see if I’ve actually gotten any fitter since starting my quest.

On New Years Eve, I could only do 8 pushups until I was exhausted. And to be honest, they were lame pushups. I couldn’t do a proper one at all.

But on Wednesday I did 20 perfect pushups! In a row! With no break! Okay, at the end I almost collapsed, but so what? I DID 20 PUSHUPS! I’ve never been able to do that! My next goal is 30 pushups in a row!

As for sit-ups, I could only do 15, and I really don’t remember what I was able to do before, so I can’t compare that. Same with squats – I did 20 in a row, but I have nothing to compare them too.

So my new mini-goals are now: 30 pushups, 20 Sit-ups, and 30 Squats. I’d like to add Chin-ups to the mix, but I have no-where to do them. They’re an exercise you need equipment for, and I have none.

Next week I want to get back into doing more vigorous exercise, as I think I’ve been too light on myself these last few weeks. But overall I’m still feeling good, and it’s obviously doing me good since I’m still improving, so I’m happy.

A surprising result!

I didn’t expect to meet any goals this week. My weight and waist seemed to level off. I didn’t put on any weight, but I didn’t take off a great deal either. I didn’t mind though, I understand that my body needs a rest sometimes.

But when I worked out my averages for this week, I got a little surprise!

Goal 6: to get my average waist measurement per week below 100cm!

Achieved today! I got 99.6cm for my average weight this week, so I guess my body was doing something while it rested.

My new goal is to get my average waist per week below 99cm! I know I can do it. Maybe not next week, but it will happen. :D

A few weeks ago I started keeping track of how many words per day I write.

I’ve been trying to work out a suitable goal for my writing. I don’t know whether I should make my goal X words per day, or XX words per week. I’m leaning towards a weekly goal, since then I can do more on one day, then take a break another day. I like variety in my schedule, and I don’t want to feel locked doing something every single day, even if I don’t want to.

And the fact is, I feel that if I force myself to write at times when I really don’t want to, then that writing won’t be so good, so there’s no point in doing it. It’s best to be flexible, and write when I feel like writing.

I think, if I make my goal a weekly total of 6000 words, that would be a good starting place. Then, once I achieve that goal regularly, I’ll up it to 7000.

How do you guys write? Do you set daily/weekly goals? Do you meet them?

Goal 3: to get my average weight per week below 89kg

Goal 4: to get my average waist measurement per week below 101cm

I did it! This week, my average weight was 88.8! And my average waist measurement was right on 100cm! When I started creating these mini-goals, I didn’t think imagine I would be achieving one a week.

So my new goal, goal number 5, is to get my average weight per week down below 88kg. My new goal number 6 is to get my average waist measurement below 100cm. I think this one will be a little harder, but still achieveable. I really enjoy exercising now. It’s so wierd, I never thought I’d ever say that. But with Wii Fit, it gives you visual stimulation while you are exercising, which is why I think I like it. If I stuck to traditional exercise I would have quit on my second day. I need something to occupy my mind while I exercise, and I’ve found that now.

Fitness Update: Goals achieved!!

I achieved my first two minigoals! :D

I had a bit of a bad day yesterday. I ate junkfood for lunch, and had quite a bit of soft drink. I was sure I’d go up in weight today, but I the exercise I’ve been doing has been helping more than I thought. I went down! Today I was 88.6kg, which is the lowest I’ve been all year! And my waist was 100.5cm, also a new low!

But it’s my average weight per week that I was truely interested in. My first mini-goals were:

  • Goal 1: to get my average weight for one week below 90kg
  • Goal 2: to get my average waist measurement below 102cm

And so, here it is!

89.3 and 101.1!  I know I set my goals low, so I would achieve them sooner, but I didn’t think I would get there this quickly. This was just the sort of pickmeup I needed this morning :D

Now I guess I’m going to have to set new minigoals!

  • Goal 3: to get my average weight for one week below 89kg
  • Goal 4: to get my average waist measurement below 101cm
